How Has the Lord Protected You? (Part 1)

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Carey Kinsolving “I try not to get in fights so I won’t need protection, and God can go and help someone else who really needs protection,” says Taylor, age 9. Avoiding fights will certainly make your life easier, Taylor, but we all need God’s protection for other things. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for a bully, says Tucker, 7: “The Lord has protected me by letting me learn tae kwon do, which means ‘the way of the hand and the foot.’” I suppose this could be called the Teddy Roosevelt approach to protection: “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” Trusting the Lord for protection doesn’t mean we leave our doors unlocked or walk into dangerous neighborhoods at night. We live in a fallen world. Trusting God doesn’t mean living naively or foolishly. We should take precautions, but no one can be so careful that he doesn’t need divine protection. Often, we need the Lord’s protection from the unknown, says Timothy, 7: “When I was 4 years old, I thought there was a monster under the bed.” If we don’t live by faith, the monsters of life in the form of imagined disasters will devour us. For many adults, the monsters have moved from under their beds into their heads. Have you ever played “What if?” Our imaginations can drive us insane with fear and worry. Christians need to develop a faith swagger. This is a confidence in the Lord that lets us face life with boldness and daring. We’re not fighting the battle alone. “God has protected me when I was afraid, and I knew that God was watching me,” says Brooke, 8. “Then, I was not afraid anymore because I had a feeling that God was protecting me.” The Psalmist wrote: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in him I will trust” (Psalm 91:1-2). Like a baby eagle under the protective shadow of its mother’s wings, so is the Christian abiding in that secret place of God’s love and protection. Danger may surround, but it can’t touch the one who abides under the shadow of God’s wings. Sometimes, God uses his messengers to protect, says Kathryn, 10: “God has protected me with his angels. His angels are all around us. God is also like a big shield. He is surrounding us, and he is watching over us.” Guardian angels are more than a cute figure of speech. They are on-the-job messengers of God in a spiritual conflict that can only be described as total war in unseen realms. Of these angels, the Psalmist wrote, “For (God) shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). Taylor, 11, gives us some final insight and encouragement: “The Lord has protected me in many ways! He has protected my family also. He protects my family daily and nightly. My mom and I were protected when we almost got in an accident. And every day, I have millions of angels surrounding me! God loves each and every one of us. He hears our many prayers. He is never off duty! “God would do anything for us. After all, he did send his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for us. I need no shield of armor. God is my shield and my armor. That’s all that matters to me.” Think about this: Even in the midst of danger, God wants us to live boldly with the confidence that he is more than capable of protecting us. Memorize this truth: “For (God) shall give his angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11). Ask this question: Are you resting in Gods protection? What to Wear to Work

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By ChaChanna Simpson As some of you are recent college grads, I understand that you have become accustomed to literally rolling out of bed and grabbing anything off the floor or out the hamper and going to class. And it was great, wasnt it? But you know what? You cant continue to dress that way when you get a job in the corporate work world. Recently it has become clear to me that some of you twentysomethings dont know whats appropriate to wear to an interview or in the workplace. And I am by no means a fashion expert but I can make a suggestion right off the bat: IRON YOUR CLOTHES! Ive seen some of us twentysomethings on the train in the morning, going to work in nice outfits that look like you first balled it up and sat on it, twisted it around itself, jumped on it and then put it on. Please stop that. And for those of you who have to wash your hair every morning, please take the time to blow dry it out. And my people who sport a fro: comb it, shape it and make sure there isnt any lint in it. Really people, it doesnt take that much to make yourself look presentable. I know what youre thinking: Im not going to succumb to the way society wants me to dress. But if you desire to make a career out of your job or want to be considered for promotions or taken seriously, you are going to have to play the part. You wouldnt expect to become a professional swimmer if instead of wearing the swimsuit you wore a sweat suit. So why would you wear a dingy shirt or tight skirt to work in a professional office? Now, I realize that not every office has a business casual dress code. Some of you may be lucky enough to wear jeans to work. But in the event your offices dress code is strictly enforced and you havent a clue as to what to wear, I aim to help you out. In general, clothes made of silk, rayon, silk blends, wool blends, polyesters or other synthetic material (not spandex) are good choices. Women can wear pants, slacks, pants and skirt suits, dress shirts, skirts and dresses. The general rule is that dresses and skirts should be the length of your fingertips at your side or below the knee. Let me explain. If you stand up straight and place your hands at your side, your skirt should either meet or pass your fingertips. Please do not walk up into peoples job wearing a skintight above the knee cocktail dress. It may get you looks from the guys but it will not get you respect, and wearing it to an interview with fishnet stockings (which are not acceptable with any outfit for work) wont get you the job either. Desiree Spivey, CEO, of Beauticontrol, http://www.beautipage.com/desireespivey/, says a reason why people dress inappropriately for work is because everyone is a too fashionable. They cant differentiate whether they are going to work or going out to the club. This is true in the case of women. How many of you have seen someone wearing that tight skirt and low-cut off the shoulder shirt to work? I know I have. For men, slacks, khaki pants, shirts, polo shirts, pullover sweaters and sports jackets are a great choice for the business casual office. Besides having a clean dress shirt, you must also wear a tee-shirt under your shirt, NOT a tank top. No matter what type a shirt a man wears, if he is not wearing a tee shirt, the dress shirt will get soiled, says Lori Lepage, President, Living Out Loud, Inc., http://www.livingoutloudinc.com/. And as long as youre not wearing sneakers, flip-flops or any kind of slippers then youll be fine. LePage says for women, the shoes should match the belt and if you are not wearing a belt, the shoes should match your skirt or pants. Spivey says for men, shoes should match the socks. One last thing I learned that I wanted to share with you is: the bottom of your pants should meet the top of the heel to the mid part of the heel of your shoe, anything over that is too long, says, Lepage. I really learned a great deal in writing this article. I pray some of you have learned something as well. Because the next time I see one of you looking a mess I am going to call you on it. And Id hope youd do the same for me. ChaChanna Simpson is the editor and publisher of Twentity.com, an ezine for twentysomethings. Visit http://www.twentity.com. Overweight - Answering Your Critics

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Trevor Johnson There are those that walk amongst us who have followed all the advice, diligently dieted and exercised with genuine effort for long periods of time, yet still fail to lose their excess weight. Even more heartbreaking for those of us who genuinely struggle with obesity are the accusations of sloth and laziness from those thin people who eat junk all day long and show no physical sign of their own gluttony. “Why can’t you just be like everyone else?”, they demand. “It must be all your own fault.” “After all,” they say in derisory voice, “Losing weight is easy. Just eat less and exercise more. If you don’t lose weight, you are just weak willed.” Every person who has never had a real problem thinks they know all the easy answers. All those underlying unwarranted generalisations we face from others just about every day of our lives is a little recognised yet very real and severe form of discrimination, based on the same types of wrong thinking as prejudice against race, skin color, creed, gender, and other well recognised forms of hatred. In fact, life experience has taught me that the less a person actually knows about obesity and weight loss, the more they think they know. I spent time a few years ago under the care of some of the most distinguished and knowledgable internationally renowned Professors researching weight loss and obesity from the University of Sydney and the Royal Prince Albert Hospital’s Obesity Clinic in Sydney, Australia. I will always remember what Professor Ian Caterson told me one day: “The more we learn about obesity, the more we realise how little we really understand and how much more there is to discover.” Would any of those permanently thin critics care to explain a man with whom I shared many physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions during my time on the program at the Obesity Clinic? He was normal down the left side of his body, though obese down the right side of his body only. Next time someone verbally berates you for carrying excess body weight and tries to tell you how easy it is to be lean & trim, try asking them what they would recommend to that man that some of the top obesity researchers in the world don’t yet know. Then, while your critic is looking dumbfounded and fumbling for some feeble explanation, hit them with a few more questions, such as: Why do large birth weight babies have a dramatically higher rate of obesity than normal birth weight babies? And, given the above, just what control do you think I’ve got over my birth weight? Do you know what your metabolic rate is? If not, why do you presume to think you know mine? Do you think everyone has identical norepinephrine levels? Oh, you don’t even know what norepinephrine is, huh? Why do some people gain weight during stressful times while other people loss weight, irrespective of their eating patterns? How do you expect an overweight person to even be capable of greater physical activity than a normal weight person? Name me five minerals (not vitamins) that are vital for hormonal function, and explain which of these hormones has a different effect on brain signals related to appetite and metabolism. Tell me what you know about Insulin Resistance Syndrome, what causes it, what its symptoms are, and how to treat it. What has the least nutrient value to the human body - (a) 100 calories of pure fat, (b) 100 calories of pure protein, or (c) 100 calories of pure carbohydrate? (By the way - Your critic will probably answer Fat. The correct answer is C. The human body actually requires fats and proteins for various metabolic and physiological functions. Pure carbohydrate has no known unique use in the human body as the body can convert either fats or proteins as required into blood glucose, as it does with carbohydrate.) Some of the most successful business people, scientists, philosophers and artists in the course of human history have struggled with obesity. Why do you think such successful and influential people who have changed the course of the world as we know it today are “weak willed”? When you see the jaw of your critic drop to the floor, as they turn pale and look like they’ve been hit by a runaway train, when their silence shows that their ignorance and prejudice has been thoroughly exposed, just calmly walk away. At this point, both of you now know that, even though you may carrying excessive body weight, it is your critic who has the bigger problem. Atkins Diet - Good or Bad? The 6 Steps Analysis

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Mickael Kerenterff The Atkins diet, without a doubt, has been the most controversial diet of all time. Seldom does a week go by that the news media does not mention the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet, first introduced in 1972 by cardiologist Dr. Robert Atkins, is considered the most extreme of the low carb diets. Hundreds of research studies by universities and research teams throughout North America, Europe, and Asia have been conducted on the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet, as with any diet program, has its good and bad points - but, whatever side you are on, one thing is for sure. Dr. Atkins, and the Atkins diet, has done for the diet and nutrition industry what Mohammad Ali did for the boxing industry. Dr. Atkins created new awareness and introduced new concepts that will forever affect how we look at diets for weight loss as well as diets for health. Although the low carb diet was first written about in the late 1800’s, low carb dieting truly came to life with the birth of the Atkins diet. Let’s take a look at three good and bad points of the Atkins diet. Atkins diet - the good stuff. 1. THE ATKINS DIET BURNS FAT FASTER THAN ANY OTHER DIET. The human body is designed to use two different fuels to sustain life - glucose from carbs or ketones from fat. Glucose is the primary fuel, fat the backup. Every weight loss diet is based on the concept of burning fat. Conventional diets generally are designed to burn fat by starvation - by eating fewer calories than you use every day. This causes the body to dip into its reserve energy source - the fat surrounding your abdomen and your thighs first. The Atkins diet approaches fat burning a different way. It limits the glucose (carb) intake so the body adjusts itself to using ketones (fat) as its primary fuel. Normally within three to four days of starting, your body is literally a fat burning machine on the Atkins diet. 2. THE ATKINS DIET DOESN’T LEAVE YOU HUNGRY. Unlike most conventional diets, the Atkins diet is not based so much on calorie intake. Dr. Atkins does, however, warn that you should not stuff yourself but only eat until satisfied. Also, since you are replacing carbs with protein, and the main protein source is meat, a high percentage of each meal will consist of meat and fat. Meat and fat are more fulfilling and much slower to digest. Not only do you feel more satisfied at dinner, but it will stay with you longer on the Atkins diet. 3. THE ATKINS DIET IS SAFE AND HEALTHY. The vast majority of studies show the Atkins diet to be extremely healthy, in comparison to other conventional weight loss and lifestyle diets. Nearly every study shows the Atkins diet the winner in reducing cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure. In addition, many cases of acid reflux, sleep apnea, and diabetes have either had the symptoms reduced or completely disappear while on the Atkins diet. Also, you’ll often hear “we have no way of knowing the long term safety of low carb diets”. Fact is, the Atkins diet has been around for over 30 years - longer than most other weight loss programs. Although first written about at the end of the 19th century, the low carb diet has actually been around for centuries prior to that. How so? The North American Eskimo. Their diet has primarily been no or very low carbs. Yet chronic diseases that are epidemic today, such as diabetes and heart disease, were practically unknown among the Eskimos. At least this was true until they were introduced to sugar and white flour. The Eskimos have been well studied and found to be a healthy and hardy bunch, even after centuries of living on a low carb diet. Yes - a low carb diet much more extreme than even the Atkins diet. Atkins Diet - The Bad Stuff. 4. THE ATKINS DIET BURNS FAT TOO QUICKLY. The primary concern here is toxic overload. When toxins enter you body, either from environmental sources or from additives in prepared foods, your body’s defense mechanism will quickly try to eliminate them through the liver and kidneys. Quite often the overload is such that the body will also hide some of these toxins in your fat cells. When burning fat these toxins are released again into your bloodstream. You can experience toxic overload when you burn fat too fast, as in the first weeks or months of the Atkins diet. 5. THE ATKINS DIET CAUSES FATIGUE. Yes, initially it does - for a couple of reasons. First, switching fuels from glucose to ketones is stressful to the body. It’s a drastic change in your metabolism. You might say it’s similar to mild drug withdrawal. Many people actually do have a “carb addiction” and not even realize it. Secondly, as we learned a minute ago, your body will quite likely be working hard dealing with toxic overload if burning fat too fast, as early in the Atkins diet. 6. THE ATKINS DIET LACKS GOOD NUTRITION. Plant life is the basic nutritional source for all living creatures, including humans. When an animal eats plants, some of the nutrients, such as calcium and other minerals, are sent to different parts of the body where needed. And even if we eat an animal from nose to tail, including the bones, we are still missing some of these nutrients and essential enzymes that are burned up in the metabolic process. Good nutrition suffers when we drastically limit carbs, particularly with the induction phase of the Atkins diet. Atkins Diet - Is It Right for You? The Atkins diet has been proven safe, effective and Dr. Atkins’ nutritional concepts are basically sound. This is probably the best choice for fast weight loss for an upcoming wedding or cruise - or to jump start your new life. A lot of water and a GOOD vitamin supplement are strongly recommended with ANY diet, but particularly with the Atkins diet. The Atkins diet can be adjusted to a less aggressive program if you have a lot of weight to lose and wisely choose to lose the pounds more slowly over a longer period of time. This would be less stressful, much healthier and give the stretched skin a chance to shrink. Skipping the induction phase is one way. You may find this more sustainable over the long haul using the Atkins diet. One important key to health and success with any low carb diet is to make every carb count by choosing nutrient dense live carbs. These include fresh vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, spinach, and green beans. This is critical where total carbs are very limited - such as with the first two stages of the Atkins diet. Fat-Burning Exercise: The Key to a Fitter and Healthier You

Friday, September 21st, 2007

By Joseph Ducat Being physically fit is the key to having a healthy body well into your senior years. You want to be up and about when youre 80, not confined to a bed or a wheelchair. And it doesnt take a miracle, either. All you have to do is practice a regular fitness routine and follow that up with a healthy diet. If you have a diet that is big on fast food coupled with little or no regular physical exercise, then you are definitely headed for trouble in your golden years. You might not even make it that long. Check out the national statistics for heart disease, and read the studies relating cardiovascular health to diet and fitness. So dont wait, get on your feet and do something about it. Its a sure sign of poor fitness when you start seeing yourself get love handles. Not only is that bad for your health, its rather unattractive and embarrassing to have fat bulging from the sides. They may be called love handles, but we can hardly say that we love having them. In fact, what we would dearly love is to get rid of them and have a lean and healthy figure. If thats your goal, then your fitness program should definitely be oriented towards fat-burning exercise. What does that mean, exactly? Well, first of all purge your mind of those images of musclebound juggernauts pumping iron. Weight training is great for fitness, of course, but it is more effective for such goals as muscle increase and body shaping. But if your focus is on weight loss, then you should put more of your time and energy into fat-burning exercises, those that involve a good cardiovascular workout. The good thing to note is that there is a great variety in cardio fitness exercises. To run down the list, we can mention aerobics, biking, swimming, running, squash, and badminton. We can go on, but you must get the idea. You can also get the right training by using an elliptical machine, a fitness treadmill, or a stationary bike. With all the options available to you, there is sure to be one form of training that you will like. It doesnt really matter what it is, as long as it becomes a regular part of your lifes routine. If you can afford it, I suggest you hire yourself a personal fitness trainer. Self-motivation will always be important, but it is even better if you have someone who can personally oversee your training and offer you encouragement when you need it. Another advantage of getting a personal trainer is having someone who can design a fitness program to fit your lifestyle. You are sure to burn fat off more quickly, and the cost to you would certainly be worth the result of gaining a more attractive figure and a longer and healthier life. Beating Your Neck, Back and Shoulder Pain

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Dr. Joseph J. Berke, Ph.D. Suffering from neck, back and shoulder pain? If you are, youre in good company. Millions of people wake up every morning and endure every day experiencing pain in their necks, backs and shoulders. While neck, back and shoulder pain used to be thought of as conditions affecting only adults, due to more parents scheduling routine doctors visits for their kids, its becoming increasingly apparent that children and teenagers are also suffering from the symptoms. So if its not age that causes this severe discomfort, what is it? Believe it or not, the culprit may be your sleep habits and the position you sleep in. Each and everyday, you are putting stress on your spine, which directly impacts the tension in your neck, shoulders and back. Even simple, everyday tasks like sitting at a desk, driving, and bending over can contribute to wear on these sensitive parts of your body. Your sleep time is supposed to be the time of day when these areas of your body are allowed to relax and regenerate. However, if your neck isnt properly supported while youre sleeping, your body doesnt have a chance to recover from the stress it endured throughout the day. Improper neck support while sleeping can cause increasingly severe neck, back and shoulder pain over the years, to a point where it becomes unbearable. Neck, back and shoulder pain can actually begin a vicious cycle. Youre in pain, so you cant sleep, but you need to sleep (and sleep right), to be able to get rid of the pain. A continuous lack of sleep can even lead to further problems like depression, chronic fatigue, and believe it or not, even weight gain has been linked to a severe lack of proper sleep. Fortunately, scientists and health professionals take the causes of neck, back and shoulder pain seriously, and have consistently worked towards finding methods and remedies that will alleviate the wretched symptoms. The first step towards eliminating the discomfort of these symptoms is to correct your sleep habits, and the most important part of this step is to get a pillow that properly supports your neck. Try to find one that is made to be tailored to the position you sleep in, as not all pillows are created equal. Memory foam pillows have been increasing in popularity, and rightfully so. Theyve actually been quite beneficial in relieving neck, back and shoulder pain for a number of people who have been enduring it for years. Massage, yoga, and proper exercise are also methods that have been found to reduce pain in these regions of the body. By incorporating small change like these into your lifestyle, you should have no problem overcoming your ailments. If a quality visco-elastic pillow doesnt solve your neck, back and shoulder pain, you might want to schedule an appointment with your doctor as your pain may be a symptom of a more severe underlying condition. Pain is something that affects your entire being, and remedying it quickly is vitally important to your quality of life. About The Author Dr. Joseph J. With Children, Life Is A Daring Adventure!

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Willie Jones Having been a teacher and raising three children I have seen just about everything a child can throw at you good and bad and I have loved my journey with them. When you are involved with children 24-7 you certainly get to see the different personalities and you can usually visualize what each child could be like in the future with the right guidance. And let me tell you, taking on the responsibility of raising children is something I definitely consider a daring adventure. Most animals have their young for a year or two before they grow to adulthood and leave to make their own way, but for us, it is a commitment of 18 to 22 years!!! (Some even longer). Still, we love them even though they can behave badly sometimes. There is a motivational poster that I love called Purpose-Boy (and also Purpose- Girl), and it states: A century from now it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in or how much money I had in the bank, but one hundred years from now the world may be a better place because I was Important in the life of a child. We as parents really do shape their lives even though they have their own personalities; we instill in them the family values, morals and ethics. Give the children roots but also give them wings. This is another saying on one of our motivational prints. I love these pictures and sayings because it reminds me of my grandmother and her needlepoint with her favorite quotes of wisdom, which she would pass down from daughter or son to grandchild to great grandchildren. Raising children a worthy endeavor? I think so! Willie Jones Willie is a freelance writer, researcher, floral designer, and artist. Thanks very much for reading this far. God’s Word and Marriage Are Like A Mirror

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Elizabeth Marks 2 Corinthians 7 NKJV Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. Our overriding goal, as Christians, should be to purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit by practicing holiness of reverence for God. Gods Word is like a mirror that points out the areas we need to improve. Likewise in marriage, we have many opportunities to practice God-like behaviors, when those areas for improvement are revealed. With marriage in mind, what does Luke 6:41-42 NKJV say to the self-centered spouse who only focuses on the weaknesses of his or her spouse? Luke 6:41-42 NKJV 41 And why do you look at the speck in your brothers eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye, when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brothers eye. The focus should be on our own weaknesses, not our spouses. As a Christian, we are asked to examine our self continually to ensure we are growing spiritually. One way to tell if we are maturing as a Christian is to be courageous enough to work on our own problems, with Gods Holy Spirit guiding us. If we are focusing on our spouses issues instead of our own, we stop maturing. God wants each of us to grow spiritually. That means we need to access our own issues, not someone elses. Typically, our own weaknesses are much bigger than that of our spouse. When we are able to point out someone elses weakness, it is usually because we have the same weakness to a greater degree. We know that weakness very well and we dont want to tolerate it in others. Seeing someone elses weakness should be a reminder to our self we have issues to work on. When we focus on their weakness instead of our own we become hypocritical. Everyone else can see you have a plank in your eye, yet you dont and think you can help another with their minuscule problem. Hypocrisy will keep people from coming to know the Lord as their Savior. We are Jesus witnesses. If we are hypocritical, what does that say about our witness for Christ? Do you want to push people away from saving grace into eternal damnation? Or do you want to draw them near to God to be saved? The choice is yours. Hypocrisy is a killer. Dont let yourself be drawn in to living a life of hypocrisy. Get into a small group, who will help you stay accountable and focused on your own issues, instead of someone elses. Do you see how Gods Word and marriage can be a mirror revealing truths about our self? You dont even have to wait for your spouse to point out youre focusing on them instead of your own problems. You can assess your own thoughts. If you find your thoughts drifting more towards your spouses issues, then reign them back in. Cross check the issue you were just thinking about, do you have that issue? If so, ask yourself how can I work on improving that? Ask God for help. He will guide you through the process of becoming more like Him. Lord, thank you for your Word that straightens us out and leads us on the path to life. Help us have the strength and courage to work on our own issues, instead of pointing out others flaws. Thank you for perfecting us in your righteousness and that you are faithful to complete that work in us when Christ returns. Help us be willing to hear and obey your prompting for change in our own life. Amen. Dating Advice: What American Idol Can Teach Us about Attracting Women

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Spencer Michaels When used correctly, arrogance can be an amazing tool to help you attract women. When youre slightly arrogant, females want to find a redeeming softer side to you. If you’re too arrogant or rude you will blow your chances. Let’s look at Simon Cowell for a minute. When we first saw Simon on American Idol our first instinct was to hate the guy. We all said, “What an arrogant bastard”. Now us guys thought that and probably never gave it a second thought, but women around the world starting digging deeper. They thought, “There’s got to be something more to this guy”. Then as the season went on Simon began to give credit where credit was do. What began to happen was incredible. Whenever Simon gave a compliment, the audience and all of America (particularly women) began to cheer like crazy. Why did this happen? The reason is because people were so excited to see that redeeming quality they were searching for shine through. They knew there was some good in this guy. They found themselves wanting to like him. Randy Jackson who never played the mysterious, arrogant role at all didn’t get nearly the same response when he gave kudos to a contestant. The key is to balance this confident arrogance with a sweet, vulnerable side. You can actually create a pattern with women where they’ll start being nice to you and doing all kinds of favors for you just to see that redeeming side of you peek through. It’s an amazing thing to watch when it’s done right. Personally I hate the idea of playing the arrogant role because I’m genuinely a nice, humble guy but it really works so I do it anyway. It even annoys me that women react well to this kind of attitude but unfortunately it’s a fact of life. Remember not to be mean for the sake of being mean. I wouldn’t go as far as Simon, who actually crossed the line sometimes and became mean. Remember - you don’t have months and months on a TV show to redeem yourself like he does so you can’t afford to go as far with it as he has. But done properly, arrogance can really work for you. A simple way you can begin to create the kind of dynamic that Simon does is to start calling girls out on things. Start “breaking her chops” in a playful way. When they are being lazy, call them lazy. If you don’t like her outfit, say, “I’m not really feeling that. You should wear something else”. Please don’t take this as a cue to go out and be MEAN to women. Instead it’s a cue to go out and be HONEST with women. Her behavior will actually begin to cater to making you happy and shell start working hard to bring the complimentary side out of you.
